will my boyfriend lose his job if he goes to rehab for a drug addiction?
- Like someone mentioned above, it may be possible for him to get coverage under his company's insurance plan to go to rehab. However, depending on what his job is, chances are if he doesn't go to rehab he will lose it eventually due to drug use. This happened to one of my mom's ex - coworkers. She was a very big use; she used to take this crap called "Special K" which they used to tranquilize cats I believe. Anyway, it started out as just a recreational thing, but pretty soon she was missing work because she and her boyfriend would be at home getting stoned. She even started doing it sometimes at work, coming out of the bathroom in a drug trance with blood dripping down her arm. Eventually, my mom's boss had to fire her, because her drug use was getting out of hand. So my advice to you is, better that your boyfriend sacrifices his job now and finds a new one when he's clean rather than putting off rehab and risk losing his job or his life for that matter to the drug
- Depending on the size of the company number of employees, he may be able to apply under the companies insurance plan. Recently p ed legislation by the US Employment Benefits Security Administration mandates companies to cover bouts of rehab for drug and / or alcohol addiction. A termination for voluntary request for treatment would be a wrongful termination and he would have legal recourse
- He should ask for a leave of absence for medical reasons. If he wants to seek help for his drug addiction, he will. Or he can wait until he has to seek help whether he wants to or not
- depends on his job lots of large corporations have programs to help in this area as do most federal and local govt jobs, however if he is a security yst for the CIA he may have to find another job
- he doesnt have to tell them. regular physicial can give him a medical leave. all he needs is to bring something from rehab confirming that, and just explain the privacy issue. they can not fire him while on medical leave, and he absolutely shouldnt disclose the reasons. its his business, and its hard enough
- your bf needs to discuss this with his manager or HR department & insurance company. he may be required to fill out FMLA paperwork
- that is a tricky one. An employee may take FMLA leave to seek treatment for drug abuse, however, if the employer has a uniformly applied policy that has been communicated to all the employees, the employer may terminate the employee who has engaged in unacceptable use of drugs, contrary to the employer's policy, despite the fact that the employee is on FMLA leave. So if the boss has a no coke policy & your BF wants to be treated in coke rehab, he can take leave and be fired when he comes back
